THE BRAND

Gloomie Chérie

At the dawn of its sixth year in business, Spooks & Spanks embraced a new name, Gloomie Chérie, a natural transformation that reflects the brand’s heart, growth, and ever-deepening connection to authenticity and care.

In a world where authenticity often takes a back seat, Gloomie Chérie radiates refreshing honesty, an authenticity that resonates not only through its creations, but through the very soul of the brand.

A potent brew of innovation and compassion courses through the veins of this magical enterprise. The remnants of their artistry, the soap scraps, bits, and ends that often vanish into the ether, find a noble purpose. They are carefully collected, not discarded, and lovingly shared with local shelters. In these small but meaningful acts, what was once leftover gains new significance, offering comfort and care to those in need.

As Gloomie Chérie continues to change the script for cosmetics and self-care, it whispers a promise of a more conscientious and magical world, one where every bubble, every scent, and every potion carries not just the essence of allure, but the promise of a better tomorrow.

Soaping it forward

Access to hygiene is something many of us take for granted. Did you know that 2.3 billion people in the world don’t have access to soap? While it’s impossible for one person to change those numbers, even small acts can ripple outward and change lives locally.

That’s why Gloomie Chérie’s soap ends and bars that don’t pass quality control are donated to La rue des femmes, a non-profit organization that supports unhoused and at-risk women.

This is what we call Soaping It Forward, a way to turn every batch into something that helps not just skin, but hearts. So if you ever don’t find a sample in your order, know that it’s found its way to someone who needed it more.

 The Owner and the Beginnings

From her early days, Alicia nourished a whimsical wellspring of creativity that led her into the world of graphic design. Since 2012, she has been crafting with imagination and intention, but her heart always sought something more tactile, more magical.

In her youth, Alicia experimented with perfumes made from cucumber and coffee, which, though not olfactory masterpieces, hinted at the alchemist within.

It wasn’t until 2019, at 29, that she began creating handmade cosmetics from her Montreal apartment, a way to be kinder to her skin and soul. The spark of those creations caught fire, and what began as personal care soon turned into a calling.

Thus was born Spooks & Spanks, which later evolved into Gloomie Chérie, a brand rooted in self-love, mental health care, and a belief that everyone deserves a touch of magic in their daily rituals.

From her kitchen to homes across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan, Alicia’s creations have carried not just fragrance and colour, but care and intention.

As Gloomie Chérie continues to bloom, its mission remains the same:
to make people feel inherently worthy of love, care, and a little enchantment, one creation at a time.
